Square with a diagonal repeat design of elegant narrow pines crossing the shawl interspersed with exotic flowers and foliage, all in crimson, red, green and gold coloured silks on a rich blue diaphanous ground, all in a plain weave, two borders woven with a herringbone weave with blue and white stripes flanking a red ground, the other two in gold and blue and red, blue silk tassels to all sides.
6ft; 1.83 m sq.
Very good. Both gold/red borders have a 4 1/2 x 3 in ; 12 x 7 cm long fade mark. And the same further down on the same border. The shawl must have been folded in such a way that the stain penetrated through.

Beautiful colours and very nice borders. This Prussian or mid blue was very popular for dresses in the 1850s.
Clabburn, Sons & Crisp were manufacturers of dress fabrics and shawls. They exhibited at the 1851 Great Exhibition and won awards at Paris Expositions of 1855 and 1862.
